North Peace Minor Baseball Code of Conduct

 

 

 

Introduction

 

The aim of North Peace Minor Baseball is to foster a love of baseball in support of the development of good character, physical fitness, and community involvement in a respectful and positive environment for all participants.  Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values of North Peace Minor Baseball, as expressed in this document and other policies.

 

 

Application

 

The North Peace Minor Baseball Code of Conduct applies to all participants during baseball related activities, on and off the field of play.

 

North Peace Minor Baseball participants are defined to include, but not limited to, all players, coaches, umpires, league officials, volunteers, members of the Board of Directors, parents/guardians, sponsor representatives, and members of the general public attending as spectators. 

 

Failure to follow the Code of Conduct and policies of North Peace Minor Baseball may result in disciplinary sanctions by the association.

 

Any issues in regards to the Code of Conduct will be dealt with on a case by case basis and as timely as possible.

 

 

General Principles

 

The North Peace Minor Baseball Code of Conduct includes sections with expectations specific to players, coaches, umpires, parents/guardians, and members of the Board of Directors.

 

The following overarching principles apply to all participants:

 

  • Demonstrate the greatest levels of respectful and appropriate behavior.

 

  • Use respectful language and manner when communicating with others.

 

  • Address problems and disputes with dignity.  If efforts to directly correct a situation fail, use a 24 HR “cool down” period before relaying your concerns to North Peace Minor Baseball.

 

  • No use of alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, or vaping products on or around the field.

 

 

 

 

 

Code of Conduct – Player

 

Players are expected to:

 

  • Be prepared and on time.

 

  • Respect the leadership of your coaches, and the decisions and authority of the umpires.

 

  • Support your team mates.

 

  • Demonstrate respect for the opposition. 

 

  • Refrain from engaging in any disrespectful or demeaning conduct.

 

  • Care for and respect the facilities and equipment made available to you during training and competition.

 

  • Have mobile devices put away, they should not be used during practice or games.

 

  • Report all injuries to the coach.

 

  • Show up to listen, learn, and compete.
 

 

 

Code of Conduct – Coach

 

Coaches are expected to:

 

  • Seek to maximize the participation and enjoyment of all players.

 

  • Provide positive support for players.

 

  • Emphasize skill development, attitude, and effort over winning.

 

  • Teach respect for fellow team mates, opponents, umpires, and community members.

 

  • Always consider the health, safety, and welfare of players.  Be knowledgeable about safety policies, including arm care and concussions.  Be observant for safety concerns and discourage unsafe conduct.

 

  • Maintain professional and appropriate relationships with players.

 

  • Respect the decisions and authority of the umpires.

 

  • Demonstrate leadership and model consistency with the principles of fair play and adherence to the rules and policies of North Peace Minor Baseball.

 

 

 

 

 

Code of Conduct – Umpires

 

Umpires are expected to:

 

  • Conduct oneself with dignity on and off the field of play and by personal example, to inspire participants to abide by true principles of fair play.

 

  • Adhere to league standards and directives.

 

  • Treat everyone fairly and respectfully.

 

  • When unable to honor assignments promptly notify the allocator or find a suitable replacement.

 

  • Challenge oneself to ongoing improvement as students and practitioners of the game of baseball, by continuing to attend clinics and workshops, and study the rule book and training manuals.

 

 

 

 

 

Code of Conduct – Parents/Guardians

 

Parents/Guardians are expected to:

 

  • Positively support players and respect their efforts.  Place the emotional and physical well being of the players ahead of the desire to win.

 

  • Avoid being a sideline coach as it distracts and confuses the players, and frustrates the coach.

 

  • Respect the coach’s position as the team leader and refrain from undermining their instructions on the field.

 

  • Respect the decisions and authority of the umpires.

 

  • Demonstrate respect for the opposition and refrain from engaging in any disrespectful conduct.
 

 

 

Code of Conduct – Members of the Board of Directors

 

Members of the Board of Directors are expected to:

 

  • Demonstrate integrity in all matters involving the sport by behaving with the intention to benefit the experience of the players.

 

  • Conduct oneself openly, professionally, collaboratively, and in good faith.

 

  • Behave with decorum appropriate to the circumstance and position.

 

  • Promote the open exchange of ideas and perspectives.  Demonstrate respect towards others in all communications.
